Andruss, as he is known in electronic music, is originally from Mérida and is a representative of tech house at a national and international level.
As he puts it, his idea was always "to look for a new approach to music", a curiosity that gave rise to his side as an artist. In his early years he experimented with house and tech house, aiming to break barriers among the most clubby, danceable and energetic sounds of the scene, always curious about how artists like The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk and Tiësto made their music.
Was it easy to get close to labels like Toolroom, Bunny Tiger, South of Saturn and La Pera?
It's been kind of funny, because every track has been signed in a very short time. One of my favorite anecdotes is "Right Back". We were working on several ideas in our home studio, Dwitt Sound. We had a Brazilian bass track with a vocal, sent it to several labels, and nobody answered. A few weeks later I started an idea mixing house toms over a tech house beat, with a bass designed from a voice note and the sounds of a moving train.
Two days later we used the vocal from the earlier track and didn't hesitate to send it to Mark Knight. I still remember it took him only a few minutes to reply: "100000% for Toolroom."
A little bit about the Ecuador tour
Ecuador was incredible. The warmth, the food and the attention made us feel so welcome we didn't want to leave. Our first date at Monovox was unforgettable, from the residents to the owner, who is also a DJ, and my friend Ricardo Cali, who did a gem of a warm-up.
From there we went to Machala and Portoviejo, and closed at the legendary Lost Beach Club in Montañita, where I played two dates and both were amazing. Playing a club ranked #27 in the world, with more than 4,000 people, is something that transcends in any DJ's career. And it has a secret club called La Cueva, where after-parties can last up to 23 hours.
"There are no shortcuts to success. Constancy and discipline are key, but you always have to enjoy the process." — Andruss
Europe tour dates 2022
Andruss's autumn 2022 tour included ADE in Amsterdam, where he was named among 1001Tracklists' Top 101 Producers, plus dates in Spain (Alicante, Valencia, Xàtiva, Dénia), Mexico (Querétaro, Mérida) and Peru (Trujillo, Lima).
Upcoming projects
My next release, coming around November, is one of my biggest achievements: the "Mueve" EP, a collaboration with Argentine singer El Apache Ness and DJ Umberto Pagliaroli, on Jamie Jones's label Hot Creations, with "Agáchalo" as the B-side in collaboration with rapper Fatboi. After that I have a single coming on Martin Garrix's label STMPD, and the "Flamingos EP" for Solardo's Sola Records.
